Marina Corricella is perhaps the most popular visitor attraction on the island of Procida. This small marina is full of intrigue from its brightly coloured houses that sit one on top of the other, to its charming array of bars and restaurants that look out on to the Gulf of Naples.
Most visitors to Procida arrive on the other side of the island at Marina Grande. From there it's a 5/10 minute walk through the back streets of the harbour where you'll pass some fascinating old shops and houses along the way. |

Exploring Marina Corricella
The marina is characterized by the old fishermen's houses all painted in their own unique colour schemes which form a mesmerizing effect the resembles a jigsaw puzzle. Wandering along the marina you'll find a selection of bars and restaurants on one side while on the other you'll find all of the fishing apparatus and the dozens of boats that help to bring home the fish that you can enjoy in the restaurants.
Looking up from the marina you'll see the imperious Terra Murata, the historic old town which at one time housed a prison and where another of Procida's famous sights, Abbazia di San Michele is also located.
As you follow the view left from Terra Murata your gaze fixes on the incredible cluster of houses with another major sight in amongst them, the delightful church known as Santuario di Santa Maria delle Grazie which looks down on to the marina.

Making your way to La Corricella
To reach La Corricella (as locals call it), locate the beautiful church that sits on one side of the main square in Marina Grande, Santa Maria della Pietà/Chiesa dei Marinai. If you're facing the church, take the narrow road to the left that leads away from the harbour. After a couple of minutes turn left on to Via Principe Umberto, gradually climbing a steady hill.
When you reach the top of the hill you'll be at the area known as Semmarezio or Piazza dei Martiri. At this point you can either continue to walk up the hill towards Terra Murata from where you can get the best views of La Corricella, or alternatively, turn right down the hill to reach the marina itself.
