The Abruzzo, Lazio & Molise National Park is situated across the three regions from which its name derives.

It covers a total area of 497 km² with the town of Pescasseroli in Abruzzo, at its centre. The most convenient airports to fly into for visits to the park are Pescara (123 km) and Rome Ciampino (161 km).

The Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, commonly known as the "Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise" in Italian, is one of Italy's oldest and most significant national parks.

Established in 1922, it covers an area of approximately 497 square miles (1,286 square kilometers) and spans across three regions: Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise. The park is renowned for its diverse and pristine natural landscapes, which include mountains, forests, valleys, and high plateaus.
History
The creation of the park was driven by the need to preserve the unique biodiversity and natural heritage of the central Apennine Mountains. Poaching and habitat destruction had threatened several species of wildlife, including the Marsican brown bear, Apennine wolf, and golden eagle. As a result, the park was established as a protected area to safeguard these species and their habitats.

Over the years, the park's conservation efforts have been successful in supporting the recovery of endangered wildlife populations and protecting the region's ecosystems.
