The centre of Desenzano is marked by Piazza Malvezzi; this is one of the most attractive squares in the whole lake area with its historic buildings and bustling atmosphere. This is a great place to just sit and watch the world go by as you gaze out onto the lake.
The Villa Romana archaeological site with its fascinating mosaics is just a five minute walk from the main Piazza while the castle which sits in a slightly elevated position is roughly half the distance.
This is the largest town around Lake Garda and an important travel hub for the area. You can use the Lake Garda ferry system to reach all of the main towns around the lake such as Salò, Sirmione, Limone sul Garda, Riva del Garda, Peschiera and Malcesine to name just a few.
Trains run from here to the centre of Brescia in just 13 minutes without stopping along the way. If using the train for the reverse journey from Brescia to Desenzano, you can stay on the same train all the way to Venice (1 hour 34 minutes from Desenzano). The train station is situated just over a kilometre from the town centre, a walk of around 15 minutes. The name of the train station is Stazione Desenzano del Garda Sirmione with the last part of the name referring to the next major town around the lake to the east.
