Gulf of Naples Ferry Routes
Latest update: 20 October 2023
The Gulf of Naples Ferry Routes detail the timetables from half a dozen towns and islands in the Metropolitan City of Naples, as well as three ports within the city itself.
Otherwise known as the Bay of Naples, the Gulf covers an area of around 35 kilometres from Pozzuoli down to the Sorrento Peninsula and the three islands of Ischia, Procida and Capri. Naples is the busiest of the ports in the area but there is no shortage of activity among the other towns including Sorrento, Castellammare di Stabia, Pozzuoli and the islands. |

Capri Ferry Schedules
The island of Capri is separated from the Italian mainland by just five kilometres at the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula. During the summer, the island is hugely popular with ferries and hydrofoils coming in and out from nine different ports around the Gulf.
One of the most popular crossings is the 20 minute hop from Sorrento, itself a major tourist hotspot, with as many as twenty different sailing times in each direction. Capri can be reached from Naples all year round with a choice between ferry and hydrofoil, while the crossings from the neighbouring island of Ischia and the Amalfi Coast are seasonal. |
Castellammare di Stabia Ferry Schedules
The port town of Castellammare di Stabia lies at the opposite end of the Gulf, directly facing Naples at a distance of 23 kilometres.
Castellammare di Stabia marks the starting point of the Sorrento Peninsula and provides good road access to the Amalfi Coast in one direction and Sorrento in the other. It's also easy to hop on the motorway and head south towards Salerno or north to Naples. There are four destinations in reach of Castellammare di Stabia with the crossings available during the summer only. The shortest route is the one to Sorrento which is 11 kilometres away and takes 20 minutes. Capri, Positano and Amalfi are the other destinations. |

Ischia Ferry Schedules
The island of Ischia lies around 30 kilometres south west of Naples and has direct maritime connections with ten other locations around the Gulf and the Pontine Islands of Lazio to the north.
Ischia is famous for its thermal springs, its medieval fortress of Castello Aragonese and for the large amount of beaches that occupy its coastline. Of the three islands in the Gulf, it has the largest population with around 60,000 inhabitants, and as such, requires all year round access to the mainland. Naples can be reached by hydrofoil in just under an hour while the neighbouring island of Procida is just a short hop of 20 minutes. During the summer there are sailings to Capri, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. |

Naples Ferry Schedules
In terms of getting around by ferry, there are few, if any cities in Italy that offer such a wide variety as Naples. The capital of the Campania region, it's the cultural, economic and transport hub of the area with its International airport servicing some of Italy's favourite holiday destinations.
It's possible to reach eighteen different destinations by sea from Naples with the most popular routes being those to Ischia, Capri and Procida which are available all year round. It's also possible to sail across to Cagliari in Sardinia or down to Termini Imerese in Sicily, while during the summer there are also crossings available to the Aeolian Islands, the Amalfi Coast and the Pontine Islands. |

Pozzuoli Ferry Schedules
The port of Pozzuoli is situated around 15 kilometres to the west of Naples and provides a useful alternative for crossings to the islands of Ischia and Procida.
Pozzuoli is a suburb of Naples but full of history in its own right with some interesting archaeological sites such as the Flavian Amphitheatre and others nearby such as the Baia Archaeological Park. It's also at the heart of the area known as the Campi Flegree or Phlegraean Fields including the geological site of Solfatara. The ferry crossing to Ischia from Pozzuoli is shorter than it is from Naples by some 40 minutes which makes it an attractive option. |
Procida Ferry Schedules
Of the three islands in the Gulf, Procida is the least well known and offers something a bit different to the heavyweight holiday destinations of neighbouring Ischia or Capri further to its south.
The 2022 Italian Capital of Culture is famous for being one of the key filming locations of the 1994 film Il Postino, starring local hero Massimo Troisi. There are lots of references to the film around the island but of even greater interest is its major sight: Marina Corricella. The famous marina adorns the covers of websites, magazines and guide books, representing the quintessential southern Italian fishing village. Procida is reachable all year round from Ischia, Pozzuoli and Naples or in summer only from Sorrento. |

Sorrento Ferry Schedules
The seaside town of Sorrento is quite simply one of the major coastal resorts in Italy and particularly popular with international tourists. The main town of the eponymous Peninsula, it's been welcoming visitors for many years and has a well-established infrastructure of accommodation, facilities and travel options.
Sorrento's Marina Piccola is used during the warmer months of the year with hydrofoils available to seven different locations. Chief among those is the island of Capri which can be reached in just 20 minutes, while the two major towns of the Amalfi Coast: Positano and Amalfi, also receive their fair share of visitors. You can also sail to Sorento from Naples or take day-trips across to Ischia. |
