​The island of Caprera marks the eastern edge of La Maddalena Archipelago just off Sardinia's north-eastern coast. 

Caprera is connected to the central La Maddalena Island via a road bridge that crosses the sea between them. Without a doubt, Caprera's biggest claim to fame is that it became the home of Italian unification hero Giuseppe Garibaldi from 1855 until 1892.

Caprera is a picturesque island located off the northeastern coast of Sardinia, in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is part of the La Maddalena Archipelago, a group of islands known for their natural beauty and crystal-clear waters. Caprera is renowned for its unspoiled landscapes, rich history, and association with Giuseppe Garibaldi, a prominent Italian military and political figure.
History
Caprera's history is closely linked to Giuseppe Garibaldi, who played a crucial role in the unification of Italy during the 19th century. In 1855, Garibaldi purchased the island of Caprera and made it his home. He lived on the island until his death in 1882. Garibaldi's house, now a museum, is one of the main attractions on Caprera and offers insights into the life of this influential historical figure.

  • Limited Accommodation: Caprera is not heavily developed, and there are limited accommodation options on the island. However, visitors can stay on the nearby island of La Maddalena, which offers a variety of hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals.
  • Access: Caprera is accessible by a bridge from the main island of La Maddalena. Ferries and boats connect La Maddalena to the Sardinian port cities of Palau and Santa Teresa Gallura, providing easy access to Caprera.
