​The Matese Regional Park is situated within the Province of Benevento, as well as the Province of Caserta. It covers a total geographical area of 330 square kilometres. 

Among the highlights of the park are the lakes of Lago del Matese and Lago di Gallo Matese, as well as the hill town of Letino, while Naples International Airport is a one hour 46 minutes away by car.

Matese Regional Park, also known as Parco Regionale del Matese in Italian, is a stunning protected area located in the central-southern part of Italy, straddling the regions of Molise and Campania.

Established in 2002, the park covers an area of approximately 160 square miles (415 square kilometers) and is characterized by its diverse landscapes, ranging from rugged mountains and deep valleys to serene lakes and lush forests. The park's name, "Matese," is derived from the ancient Samnite tribe, the "Marsi," who once inhabited the area.
History
The Matese mountains have a rich historical and cultural heritage. The region has been inhabited since prehistoric times and has witnessed the rise and fall of various civilizations, including the Samnites, Romans, and Normans.

​The mountains served as a natural border between the Kingdom of Naples and the Papal States during the Middle Ages. Today, the Matese Regional Park is not only a place of natural beauty but also a living testimony to the area's historical and cultural significance.
