The town of Santa Fiora Amiata is situated within the Province of Grosseto and in Tuscany and stands at an elevation of 687 metres above sea level. It has a population of around 2,500 inhabitants.

In 2021 the mayor of Santa Fiora outlined a scheme to stimulate the local economy and to increase the population. For anyone running or willing to set up an online business in Santa Fiora, the local authorities will pay up to 50% of their rent with certain caveats included such as living there for a minimum number of months. The aim is to become a "Smart Working Village" with the local government investing in a fast and reliable internet connection that the smart workers can take advantage of.
