​The summit of Mount Etna soars to a maximum height of 3,326 metres above sea level, making it the highest active volcano is Western Europe. It's situated within the Metropolitan City of Catania province, an hour away by car from Catania Airport. 

It's possible to drive a long way towards the summit until you reach a cable car system that transports you to the site of the crater.

Mount Etna is one of the most iconic and active volcanoes in the world, situated on the east coast of Sicily, Italy. It is the tallest active volcano in Europe and stands at an elevation of approximately 3,329 meters (10,922 feet) above sea level. The volcano has a complex geological history and is renowned for its frequent eruptions, which have shaped the surrounding landscape over millennia.
History
Mount Etna has a long and storied history, with evidence of volcanic activity dating back thousands of years. It is believed to have formed around 500,000 years ago through the subduction of the African plate beneath the Eurasian plate. Throughout history, various civilizations, including the Greeks and Romans, have been fascinated and impacted by the volcano's eruptions.

Etna's eruptions have been both destructive and beneficial. The volcanic soil around the mountain is exceptionally fertile, making the slopes ideal for agriculture, particularly for vineyards and orchards. However, eruptions have also led to devastation and loss of life in nearby settlements.
