The ski resort of Breuil-Cervinia is situated a distance of 56 kilometres north-east of Aosta, the regional capital of Valle d'Aosta. It stands at an elevation of 2,005 metres above sea level and has a population of around 700 permanent residents.

The resort's name is made up of two words: the French word Breuil and Cervinia, an Italian word which relates to the Matterhorn. The Italian name for the Matterhorn is Monte Cervino. Italy's international border with Switzerland lies just under five kilometres to the north and west of the resort. Breuil-Cervinia is a frazione of the Valtournenche Comune.
