Within the realm of Modern Italian architecture we move away from the stylistic movements from further back in history. The buildings in this collection don't conform to a set of principles in the way that we've seen with previous architectural styles such as Baroque, Renaissance or Gothic for example.
One of the greatest attractions of Italy is that it's something of an open-air museum with historic buildings recounting the stories of the past and the structures built in the modern age, post World War Two, don't perhaps get the recognition they deserve. The buildings in this segment are relatively few in number but exhibit work from star architects including Renzo Piano and Zaha Hadid. |

Modern Architecture in Italy
In a country that's so synonymous with the past it goes somewhat against the grain to showcase its modern features. The majority of visitors to Italy are charmed for the most part by the vestiges of its past and it's hard to argue against that sentiment.
However, this is a living, breathing country that strives to keep up with modern trends and of course this occurs in architecture just as it does in every day life. Some of the world's most famous modern architects are either from Italy as in the cases of Renzo Piano and Massimiliano Fuksas, or have designed structures in the country; among those in the latter category are the likes of Zaha Hadid, Sir Norman Foster and Richard Meier.
