The rough English translation for I Borghi Più Belli d'Italia is Italy's Most Beautiful Villages. A typical borgo however, can be more than just a village: there are times when they're the historic centre or centro storico of a larger town or even a series of hamlets that belong to a central municipality (comune in Italian).
The Italian landscape is peppered by scores of hill towns and villages, many of which have their way on to this list which has been produced by an association of the same name. These are some of the most fascinating locations in Italy, steeped in history and each with its own beguiling tale to tell. |

Most of the twenty Italian regions have a good number of these borghi and as part of my aim to find the most interesting places in Italy, I've personally visited each one on the list, notwithstanding the fact they regularly add new ones to keep me on my toes! Visiting the Borghi Più Belli d'Italia has been one of the most enjoyable and satisfying parts of my job. The task has taken me to every corner of Italy and quite often to places that were difficult to reach, but those more remote places were often among the most fascinating.
At last count there were 308 borghi in total so rather than breaking the internet with everything on one gigantic page, I've divided them up by region. Just click on the relevant photo below to find the list for that region and then an individual page for each borgo beyond that with its own description and photos.
