The Castello del Valentino is located on the banks of the River Po in Turin city centre, at the southern end of the sprawling Parco del Valentino city park. It's one of the thirteen buildings that form the 1997 Residences of the Royal House of Savoy UNESCO listing.  

The former royal residence now houses a branch of the Polytechnic University of Turin and the city university's Botanical Garden.

Castello del Valentino, commonly known as Valentino Castle, is a historic palace located along the banks of the Po River in Turin, Piedmont, Italy. This magnificent castle is an architectural gem and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous for its exquisite Baroque and Renaissance architecture, stunning gardens, and its connection to the House of Savoy, the former royal family of Italy.
History
The history of Castello del Valentino dates back to the 16th century when it was commissioned by Duke Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy. The castle was designed by renowned architects including Ascanio Vitozzi and Carlo di Castellamonte. It served as a grand residence for the Savoy family, especially during the reign of Duke Charles Emmanuel I.

Over the years, the castle underwent various renovations and expansions under different rulers of the House of Savoy, each contributing to its architectural splendor. In the 19th century, after the unification of Italy, the castle lost its status as a royal residence, and it was eventually handed over to the University of Turin. Today, Castello del Valentino houses the Faculty of Architecture of the university.
