History

Throughout its history, the abbey underwent several expansions and renovations, reflecting different architectural styles and influences.
During the Napoleonic era in the early 19th century, Fossanova Abbey was suppressed and its properties confiscated. It fell into disrepair until the late 19th century when restoration efforts began, ensuring the preservation of this important historical and spiritual site.
