The borgo of Palazzolo Acreide is listed as one of the "Borghi Più Belli d'Italia" (Italy's most beautiful villages) and is also is one of the Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto (South-Eastern Sicily) inscribed since 2002 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It has a population of just under nine thousand and is situated within the province of Syracuse. 
Palazzolo stands at an elevation of 670 metres and is close to the towns of Noto and Vizzini.

Palazzolo Acreide is a charming town located in the southeastern part of Sicily, Italy. Perched on a hilltop, the town boasts a rich history, well-preserved ancient ruins, and a unique Baroque architectural heritage. Its historic center, with narrow cobblestone streets and picturesque squares, transports visitors back in time, offering a delightful blend of ancient and Baroque charm.
History
Palazzolo Acreide has a long and storied history dating back to ancient times. It was originally founded by the Sicilian tribe of Sicels around the 7th century BC. Later, it fell under the dominion of the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Normans, each leaving their mark on the town's cultural heritage.

The ancient ruins of the nearby city of Akrai (Acreide) showcase the Greek and Roman influence on the region. The town's historic center, with its Baroque churches and palaces, reflects the grandeur of the Sicilian Baroque period.
