Gavi is a small, historic town located in the province of Alessandria, in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Situated at the foot of the Ligurian Apennines, Gavi is surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards, making it an ideal destination for those seeking the tranquillity of the countryside. The town is renowned for its production of Gavi wine, a crisp white wine made from the Cortese grape, which has been celebrated for centuries.

The historic centre of Gavi is characterised by narrow, winding streets, old stone houses, and several key landmarks, including the impressive Forte di Gavi, a well-preserved 17th-century fortress that offers stunning views of the surrounding area. History
Gavi's history can be traced back to ancient times when it was a Roman settlement known as "Gavium." Over the centuries, Gavi came under the influence of various ruling families, including the Republic of Genoa and the House of Savoy.

​During the medieval period, the town grew in importance due to its strategic location along important trade routes. Gavi's medieval fortress, known as Forte di Gavi or Forte San Martino, played a crucial role in defending the territory during regional conflicts.
