The ski resort of Sestriere is situated within the Metropolitan City of Turin province in Piedmont. It stands at an elevation of 2,035 metres above sea level and has a population of around 900.

Sestriere is an official comune with a population of 922 inhabitants as of January 2021. During 2006 it was one of the main venues of the Winter Olympics and there are numerous reminders of this around the resort such as the modern Olympic Village complex. Sestriere is one of a group of resorts that makes up the Via Lattea (Milky Way in English), along with the likes of nearby Sauze d'Oulx, Pragelato and Claviere among others.

Sestriere is a famous alpine resort town located in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Its history is intimately connected to winter sports and the development of skiing in Italy. The town was planned and constructed in the 1930s by Fiat founder Giovanni Agnelli, who saw the potential of the area for winter tourism.

In 1937, Sestriere hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships, gaining international recognition and establishing itself as a premier skiing destination.
