The Sacra di San Michele, also known as the Saint Michael's Abbey, is an ancient religious complex located in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. It is perched on Mount Pirchiriano, overlooking the Susa Valley, near the town of Sant'Ambrogio di Torino. The Sacra di San Michele is one of the most iconic and symbolic sites in Piedmont and holds historical, architectural, and spiritual significance.

The Sacra di San Michele is an awe-inspiring abbey complex that stands atop a rocky spur at an elevation of about 960 meters (3,150 feet). The site is surrounded by rugged mountains, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Susa Valley and the Alps.

The abbey complex comprises various buildings, including the Basilica, the Tower of Bell'Alda, and the Monks' Cemetery. The Basilica is the central structure, characterized by its Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Its imposing facade and beautiful rose window make it a remarkable sight from a distance. The interior of the Basilica features stunning frescoes and religious artifacts.
History
