The taxis in Italy, as they are anywhere else, tend to be the most expensive option for getting around. The majority of taxi journeys take place around the major cities but there's also a healthy trade in transfers from major airports, train stations and ferry ports.
Prices for taxis vary from city to city, region to region and can also have different price bands depending on the time of day, type of day (weekday or weekend etc), or length of journey. The most common way to organise a taxi ride is by going to an allotted taxi rank but you can sometimes hail them on the street or nowadays use apps such as Uber to make a booking. |

The most famous taxi app in the western world, Uber, isn't widely available throughout Italy but it does operate in the two most populous cities: Rome and Milan, albeit with the Uber Black service only which means premium vehicles and slightly higher prices.
Nationwide there are two further app services in operation called Mytaxi and IT Taxi.
