Dion Protani
Latest update: 14 February 2024
Hi everyone and thanks for taking the time to look at my website which has been a labour of love for many years now!
I thought I should make a page to explain a little bit about myself and why I decided to create the Italy Review network. My name is Dion Protani, I was born and raised in the UK with an English background, albeit with Italian heritage on my father's side and an Italian surname to go with it. My Italian family come from a town called Ceccano in the Lazio region of Central Italy which is the one place in this world where my surname isn't considered unusual! The websites didn't start until 2013 when fate took me to the island of Ischia where I spent six very happy years living an idyllic lifestyle by the sea. Whilst in Ischia I decided to create a website called Ischia Review as a way of showcasing the island to more English-speakers. |

The origins of the Italy Review websites
At that time, the tourism in Ischia was dominated by visitors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Russia with a very small proportion of English-speakers compared to the likes of nearby Sorrento.
Ischia Review was created as a means to show people the beauty of the island but also to make it easy for them to understand how to get there and provide activities for them once they arrived.
Over the years Ischia Review increased in popularity and its success led me to create similar websites for other parts of Italy. At one stage there were around 40 websites in the Italy Review family but during the pandemic of 2020-2021, I decided to greatly reduce that number for a number of practical reasons.
Central to everything is Italy Review; this website was established around 2015 with just a handful of pages but has now become something of a monster with around 4,500 pages in total. I've personally visited and taken photos of every town, beach, island or landmark on the website over the course of many happy years exploring this great country.

Looking ahead
As things stand at the beginning of 2024 there are six websites that make up the Italy Review network. Apart from Italy Review there are the two well-established sites of Ischia Review and Sorrento Review where along with my team, I help to organise tours, transfers and other types of excursions.
There are also the three regional sites of Sicily Review, Tuscany Review and Puglia Review, each of which are aimed at providing the same level of tourist information combined with services such as those offered in Ischia and Sorrento.
We'll be soon be launching the Italy Review Magazine which is aimed at keeping our readership informed of the latest ideas and inspiration for holidays in Italy as well as a focus on the innumerable quirks and fascinating cultural aspects of life in Italy.
I hope you, your friends and family enjoy using the websites, now and in the future, and hope that you'll share some of your own stories with us as you visit this amazing country.
