The Roman Forum is situated in the centre of Rome between the Colosseum and the Capitoline Hill. The Forum Romanum as it was known, served a number of purposes but was essentially a public space that could be used for a variety of activities.

After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Forum fell into disuse and decay, but its ruins remained a reminder of ancient Rome's grandeur.
