Villa di Poggio a Caiano, also known as Villa Medicea di Poggio a Caiano, is a magnificent Renaissance villa located in the town of Poggio a Caiano, in the province of Prato, Tuscany, Italy. The villa is a remarkable example of Renaissance architecture and was once a prominent residence of the powerful Medici family, who played a significant role in shaping the cultural and political landscape of Renaissance Italy.
History
The construction of Villa di Poggio a Caiano began in the early 16th century, commissioned by Lorenzo de' Medici, also known as Lorenzo the Magnificent, who was a prominent patron of the arts and a key figure in the Italian Renaissance. The villa was designed by renowned architect Giuliano da Sangallo and later completed by his nephew Antonio da Sangallo the Younger.
