Livigno's commerce and culture is largely shaped by its geographical location. It lies just five kilometres from the Swiss border to the west of the town centre and has for many years enjoyed its status as a duty-free area. During the winter, the resort is teeming with tourists who come to enjoy the local ski slopes while it's equally busy during the summer with people of activity holidays. It also benefits from a pretty lake at the northern end of the town centre.
A curiosity of Livigno is that you have to sometimes double-check that you're in Italy as some of the road signs are in the Swiss style. The town can be reached via two roads on the Swiss side and another which heads south to Italy with some beautiful landscapes to enjoy.
