Piazza Duomo (Syracuse)
Latest update: 26 February 2022
The Piazza Duomo in Syracuse is the centrepiece of a remarkable city and its sand-coloured monuments perfectly reflect the sense of Sicilian warmth. A harmonious line of historic buildings stand above a row of outdoor restaurants along the eastern flank.
Dominating the scene opposite them, is the Baroque facade of Syracuse Cathedral whose outward beauty hides a turbulent past. |

Piazza Duomo is situated in the area of the city known as Ortigia, a small island connected to the Sicilian mainland by two road bridges. By far the most attractive area of the city, it's ringed by a series of promenades from which you can gaze out on to the acquamarine waters of the Ionian Sea. The very best vantage point is the Castello Maniace which stands at the end of a promontory and is just a 5 minute walk from the Piazza.
