Northern Italy's Valle d'Aosta region is characterised by its natural sights with the imposing Alps visible from almost every corner. This makes for some great ski resorts in the winter months and wonderful places to enjoy activity holidays for the rest of the year.
Two world-class ski resorts in Valle d'Aosta include Breuil-Cervinia and Courmayeur. One of Valle d'Aosta's best features is its array of castles that line the region's many valleys. Among the most impressive castles are the likes of the elegant Castello Savoia and the imposing Fort Bard which stands guard above the pretty village of the same name. |
There are various valley regions within Valle d'Aosta which enjoy spectacular scenery. One of the prettiest is the Lys Valley, home to small towns such as Gressoney-Saint-Jean and Lillianes. Valle d'Aosta can also claim the first official national park of Italy, the vast Gran Paradiso which is home to the Ibex and a magnet for hikers all year round.
