The Statue of David is one of the finest works of art by Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarotti. Measuring just over 5 metres in height, the project took three years and was finished in 1504. It's on display at the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence. 

The theme of David defeating Goliath is an important part of the culture in Florence where there are several other Davids displayed.

​The Statue of David is one of the most famous and iconic works of art in the world, located in Florence, Italy. Created by the renowned Italian artist Michelangelo, the statue is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture and a symbol of human achievement in art and culture.
History
Michelangelo sculpted the Statue of David between 1501 and 1504. It was commissioned by the Opera del Duomo to be placed on the roofline of the Florence Cathedral, the Duomo. However, due to its remarkable beauty and significance, the statue was instead placed in front of the Palazzo Vecchio, the town hall of Florence, as a symbol of the city's strength and freedom.

The Statue of David represents the biblical hero David, who defeated the giant Goliath with a single stone. The sculpture captures the moment just before the battle, where David exhibits a mix of intense concentration and calm determination.
