The Bergamo Baptistery or Battistero di Bergamo is located in the area of the Lombardy city known as Bergamo Alta.
Situated on Piazza Duomo and directly opposite Bergamo Cathedral, the Baptistery has led something of a charmed life, having been dismantled and rebuilt on two separate occasions before arriving in its present location in 1898. At present, the Baptistery can only be viewed from the outside and is only opened to individuals by special invitation. This is though a small area of the city which is particularly packed with sights including the adjacent Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. |
