​The seaside town of Follonica is situated on the Ligurian Sea in the Province of Grosseto. It has a population of around 21,000 residents while the main highlights include the MAGMA Museum, Acqua Village and some Blue Flag Beaches. 

​Places of interest nearby include the port town of Piombino, Punta Ala, Massa Marittima and Le Rocchette.

History
Follonica's history is closely tied to the iron industry, which dates back to Etruscan and Roman times when iron mines were exploited in the area. During the Middle Ages, Follonica became an important iron-smelting center under the rule of the Republic of Pisa. The town's name is believed to have originated from the Italian word "forno," meaning "furnace," due to the presence of iron furnaces.

Throughout history, Follonica experienced periods of prosperity and decline due to the iron industry's fluctuations. In the 19th century, the town's focus shifted to tourism, and today, Follonica is a popular coastal destination.
