The list of major cities of Veneto includes the region's seven provincial capitals. The capital of Veneto is Venice, the city built on the sea which became a maritime republic, while ancient Verona became the City of Love after Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
The city of Padua (Padova in Italian) is home to a remarkable piazza called Prato della Valle which is just a short walk from the world's oldest Botanical Garden. The city of Vicenza dazzles with its Palladian architecture while medieval Treviso offers canals and bustling marketplaces. |
Rovigo is steeped in history with the ruins of its 10th century castle just one trace of the past while Belluno is the gateway to the Dolomites; two beautiful piazzas and a cathedral being its highlights.
