The Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo is a 15th century building in the San Marco sestiere of Venice.
It's best known for its monumental staircase called the Scala del Bovolo which is added to the original structure in 1499. Since 2016 it's been possible for the public to climb the staircase which affords some wonderful views of Venice from the top and costs €7 pp. |

By climbing the staircase you follow in the footsteps of Orson Welles who chose the building as one of the main backdrops for his 1952 production of Shakespeare's Othello which is set in Venice.
