The Piazza Castello in Turin is one of the grandest squares in the city and a great reference point from which to locate its main sights. At the centre of the Piazza is the Palazzo Madama with an unusual double facade: castle on one side and palace on the other.
You can get great views from the roof of the Palazzo Madama and gaze across to the Royal Palace of Turin located in the corner. |

The elegant square is mostly pedestrianised, adorned with a series of ground-level fountains and home to the tourist office from which you can buy museum cards. However, it's also home to various tram stops and remains a key element in the city's transport system.
From Piazza Castello it's just a short walk to the major sights in Turin including the Egyptian Museum, Palazzo Carignano and the Mole Antonelliana, home of the National Museum of Cinema. Closer than those sights is the Royal Palace which is officially on a different square called Piazzetta Reale but to all intents and purposes it's the same space. Just beyond the Royal Palace in the same direction are Turin Cathedral and the Palatine Towers.
