Porta Torre
Latest update: 26 February 2022
The Porta Torre is a 40 metre high tower in the city of Como in Lombardy. Translating at "Tower Gate", it was built in 1192 as part of the city's defensive system. In modern times the tower is free-standing but during the medieval period it formed part of a wall.
It's interesting to note how the outward facing, plain side of the tower is in marked contrast to the arches of the inner wall/tower. |
