Rome Termini Train Station is the most important rail terminus in the city. It's where the trains from most of the big cities in Italy arrive and is also connected to Rome Fiumicino Airport via the Leonardo Express train service.
The Termini Metro station on lines A and B of the city's underground rail network is also located within the complex. |

Outside Rome Termini is the expansive Piazza dei Cinquecento which is itself an important transport hub. Directly outside the station there's a busy taxi rank while the rest of the square sees buses setting off on or arriving from a variety of routes around the city.
Most of Rome's open-top bus companies are situated in this square which is also used by coach companies. The interior of Rome Termini is large and modern with a generous number of retail and food outlets sprinkled around the station.

History of the Station
The station was originally opened by Pope Pius IX in 1863 as a temporary structure before the permanent building was completed in 1874, shortly after the process of Risorgimento saw Rome confirmed as the capital of Italy.
There are few, if any, Italian train stations better connected than Rome Termini; located in the centre of the country it's frequently the starting point for journeys to every corner of Italy.
