Torre  Guinigi

The Torre Guinigi is a quite extraordinary medieval tower in the city of Lucca in Tuscany. Although relatively modest with its height of 45 metres, its unique attribute is that it's topped with trees.

The tower was originally built in the fourteenth century and protrudes from the Casa dei Guinigi. When you finish scaling the 230 steps of the internal stairwell, you're met with the unusual yet delightful scene of a park edged by holm oak trees in the sky. 

From the viewing area at the top of the tower you can get some of the best possible views of Lucca which is surrounded by walkable walls, along with other sights including the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro.
