The three UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Puglia provide some of the most fascinating places to explore in the region. Perhaps the very symbol of Puglia is the sight of the Trulli of Alberobello, the iconic conical houses that can be found in the Valle d'Itria.
Of a quite different nature is the Castel del Monte in the province of Barletta Andria Trani. The 13th century castle is of a unique octagonal shape and was built by the Holy Roman Emperor Federico II. It joined the UNESCO list in 1996. The third UNESCO site in Puglia is Monte Sant'Angelo on the Gargano Peninsula which is part of the Longobards in Italy: Places of Power inscription. |
