​The town of Albano Laziale is situated within the Metropolitan City of Rome province in Lazio. It's an official municipality which had a population of 39,672 on 1 January 2022. It stands 400 metres above sea level and covers 24 square kilometres. 

Albano Laziale is one of the group of towns collectively known as the Castelli Romani (Roman Castles). 
The town lies just a short distance from Lake Albano and its lakeside resort of Castel Gandolfo. Sights within Albano Laziale itself include the Chiesa di San Pietro, the Severiano Amphitheatre and the underground cisterns called the Cisternoni di Albalonga. 

Albano's most convenient airport is Rome Ciampino which is just ten kilometres away and reachable by car in 18 minutes or by train in 34 minutes. The next best alternative is Rome Fiumicino Airport which is 46 minutes away by car. 

By train, it's possible to reach the centre of Rome in 50 minutes or neighbouring Castel Gandolfo in just 7. Albano Laziale train station is located within the town centre, a 5 minute walk from the main shopping street of Corso Matteotti.

History
Albano Laziale is an ancient town with a history that dates back to the Roman times. It was known as Alba Longa during the pre-Roman era and was considered one of the most important cities of the Latin League. According to legend, Alba Longa was founded by Ascanius, the son of the Trojan hero Aeneas.

Over the centuries, the town witnessed the rise and fall of different civilizations, including the Etruscans and the Romans. During the Roman period, it became a popular destination for wealthy Romans who built splendid villas in the area.

The town has also played a significant role in Christian history, and it is believed that St. Paul of Tarsus spent time here during his missionary journeys.

  • Wine and Cuisine: Albano Laziale is located in the renowned wine-producing region of Castelli Romani, known for its excellent wines and traditional cuisine. Visitors can taste local specialties and wines in the town's restaurants and enotecas.
