The town of Altomonte is situated within the Province of Cosenza in the region of Calabria and has a population of around 4,000.

Listed as one of the "Borghi Più Belli d'Italia" (Italy's most beautiful villages), it stands at an elevation of 455 metres. The town has two hotels while nearby places of interest include Castrovillari, Belvedere Marittimo and Buonvicino.
