Just a short distance around the coast heading east from the town of Amalfi, lies Atrani, a beautiful village that carries the distinction of being the "smallest comune (borough/district) in Italy".
Despite its size, Atrani draws visitors attracted to its pretty piazza, its domed church on a hill and perhaps most of all, for its beach. The church, Chiesa Santa Maria Maddalena is the first thing you see as you enter the small town, perched on a hill in a commanding position. |
Atrani's sandy beach is of a good size and at its rear there are some bars and restaurants as well as a tunnel that leads into the village square where there are further restaurants and shops.
The easiest way for pedestrians to reach Atrani from Amalfi is through the Luna Rossa car park tunnel which leads into the centre of Amalfi.
Another notable feather in Atrani's cap is its inclusion in the list of "I Borghi Più Belli d'Italia" (the most beautiful villages in Italy).
