Castello di San Giorgio (Mantova)
Latest update: 26 February 2022
The Castello di San Giorgio in Mantova forms part of the town's Palazzo Ducale complex. Originally completed as a defensive structure in 1406, it's surrounded by a moat on all four sides and connected to the Ducal Palace via a series of drawbridges.
In 1459, the Gonzaga family that ruled Mantova for many years converted the castle from a fortress to a residential palace. |
