The ferry ports of Lazio play an integral role in the region's transport infrastructure. Facing the Tyrrhenian Sea on the west coast of Italy, the largest port is Civitavecchia from which you can sail to and from a number of destinations including the island regions of Sicily and Sardinia, or further afield to Barcelona.
Further down the coast, south of Rome, lie a cluster of ports that serve the Pontine Islands. The majority of crossings take place during the summer when it's possible to sail to the holiday island of Ponza from the ports of Anzio, Terracina, San Felice Circeo and Formia. From the latter you can also hop across to Ventotene. |
