By far and away the best way in and out of the island of Lampedusa is by flight. Lampedusa Airport is located just at the edge of the main town and you can see the beautiful colour of the water as you fly over the first beaches before landing.
The airport only serves domestic locations in Italy as follows: Palermo, Rome, Venice, Turin, Genoa, Verona and Bergamo. |

The airlines providing the flights are Alitalia, Blue Panorama, Volotea and DAT. The last of those, curiously, is Danish Air Transport who also provide flights to another Sicilian island: Pantelleria.
Lampedusa is only twenty square miles in total so once you land, you're not far from anywhere and the main town is just under two kilometres away, a drive of less than ten minutes. This is a clean and modern airport with good facilities; surprisingly so when you consider the size of the island but not when you understand how busy it gets during the summer.
