The major cities and towns of Piedmont are headed up by the regional capital of Turin. There are eight provinces in Piedmont with Turin being the capital of the Metropolitan City of Turin province and six of the others named after their provincial capital.
The city of Verbania on Lake Maggiore is the provincial capital of Verbano Cusio Ossola which also contains Lake Orta (once called Cusio) and the town of Domodossola. The remaining six provinces all take the name of their major city and include Novara, Asti, Alessandria, Biella, Cuneo and Vercelli. |
