The category of mining towns of Sardinia points to an important part of the island region's industrial heritage. 

​One such town is Argentiera which is now all but abandoned, and as such, considered by many as one of Italy's ghost towns. 

A variety of emotions come to the surface when visiting the town which was once a thriving part of the local community. 

The mining industry in Sardinia dates back to the 6th century BC and still continues in some parts of the island.
