The first place to start with the cites and towns of Sardinia is the island region's capital of Cagliari. The Metropolitan City of Cagliari is one of five provinces in Sardinia with three of the remaining four named after the major town or city within them.
The second city of Sardinia is Sassari which is the capital of the eponymous province, while both Nuoro and Oristano are also provincial capitals. The smaller town of Carbonia is the capital of the recently created South Sardinia province, but there are larger populations in the Quartu Sant'Elena suburb of Cagliari, the port city of Olbia and the popular seaside resort of Alghero. |
