The parks of Abruzzo provide opportunities for some of the region's best sightseeing and excursions. Three of Italy's 25 national parks lies within Abruzzo's borders with the largest of those being the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park which covers an enormous expanse of 1,413 km².
Slightly smaller in dimension is the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park which covers the three regions that form its name across an area of 497 km². It's one of the oldest of the national parks, established in 1922. Slightly bigger and established as recently as 1991 is the 628 km² large Majella National Park. |
