The major parks of Piedmont include two of the national parks of Italy along with some smaller, regional parks and valley areas.
Situated north-west of Turin and sharing a regional border with Valle d'Aosta, the Gran Paradiso National Park was the first of its kind, established in 1922 and covers 703 km² of Alpine mountain territory. On the opposite side of Piedmont, north-east of Turin between the River Toce and Lake Maggiore, the Val Grande National Park is considerably smaller than Gran Paradiso, covering 146 km². La Mandria Regional Park just outside Turin and the Parco Naturale Orisera Rocciavrè offer their own distinct charms. |
