How to Get to Porto Ceresio
By Rail: Porto Ceresio has its own train station on the Varese–Porto Ceresio railway line, served by Trenord regional services. Trains run regularly to Varese, with journey times of around 30 minutes, and from there continue to Milan Porta Garibaldi, taking approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes in total. The station is located close to the town centre and within a short walk of the lakefront.

By Road: Porto Ceresio is located on the eastern shore of Lake Lugano, in the province of Varese, near the Swiss border. It is approximately 75 kilometres north-west of Milan and 25 kilometres north of Varese. The drive from Milan takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes via the A8 motorway and SP29. From Varese, the journey takes around 35 minutes. Public parking is available throughout the town, including near the railway station and lakeside promenade.

By Ferry: Porto Ceresio was historically served by passenger ferries on Lake Lugano, but regular public ferry services are currently suspended. The nearest active ferry terminals are on the Swiss side of the lake, including Lugano, Morcote, and Caslano, which operate seasonal services through Navigazione Lago di Lugano. While Porto Ceresio has a marina and lakeside facilities, there are currently no scheduled cross-lake public ferries operating from the Italian side.

  • Milan Bergamo Airport (Aeroporto di Bergamo-Orio al Serio): Roughly 125 kilometres south-east of Porto Ceresio, the drive takes approximately 2 hours. Public transport options involve train travel via Milan and Varese.
