Among the collection of pretty villages of Umbria we find one of Italy's most unique treasures.
The tiny village of Castelluccio occupies a tiny speck of a sweeping landscape at the edge of the Monti Sibillini National Park that divides Umbria from the neighbouring region of Marche. the crumbling village is still recovering from the effects of a devastating earthquake that struck just a few years ago, but even this isn't the most remarkable thing about it. People plan their whole calendars to visit Castelluccio to catch the sight of its fields in bloom with a dazzling array of colours at certain times of year. |
Another tiny village in the region that gets a great deal of attention is Rasiglia: tucked away in the Umbrian hills, its gently flowing watermills feeding into landscaped pools mark it out as a haven of serenity.
