The major ski resorts of Piedmont can be found to the west of Turin, the capital city of the region. The area known as the Via Lattea or Milky Way in English, is home to the resort of Sestriere which was one of the most important venues of the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics and home to the games' Olympic village.
Also known as the Val di Susa, the Via Lattea is not only blessed with at least half a dozen great ski resorts, it's also one of the most picturesque areas in northern Italy, especially so during the summer when its mountains are traversed by hikers. Other resorts like Sauze d'Oulx and Bardonecchia are popular all year round. |
