The fact there are a small number of ski resorts of Tuscany may come as a surprise at first as the region is generally thought of a place where rolling landscapes of green fields and cypress trees are occasionally interrupted by dazzling medieval hill towns.
However, there are some mountains in Tuscany and they get covered in snow during the winter. Perhaps the most famous of the region's ski resorts is Abetone which stands at an elevation of 1,388 metres above sea level and wouldn't look out of place if it were in the Alps, with its Swiss-style chalets. The slopes of Monte Amiata are even higher and provide another option for skiers. |
