Archaeological Sites of Calabria
Latest update: 18 February 2022
The most famous of all the archaeological sites of Calabria is in fact an exhibit or a pair of exhibits to be precise.
The two Riace Bronzes were fished out of the water in the tiny resort of Riace Marina in 1972 but date back to the 5th century BC. The two giant statues of warriors now take pride of place at the National Museum of Magna Graecia in Reggio Calabria and have become something of an iconic symbol of the region. More traditional archaeological parks can be found at Capo Colonna and Sybaris; detailing cities from the Magna Graecia era. |
